Koldinghus, meaning 'House of Kolding', is a historic castle located in the center of <Kolding>. Today it serves as a museum and cultural venue, showcasing the history of the region and hosting various exhibitions and events.
The castle was originally built in the 13th century as a royal residence and fortress.
## Ruins and restoration
In 1581, the very first danish capel church (which was located in the castle) was burned down, and reintroduced in the tower of the castle.
In 1808, during the Napoleonic Wars, the stationed troops from spain and fance was trying to keep warm by heating the castle with the many furnaces, which caused a fire that destroyed most of the castle mani building.
After nearly 100 years in ruins the restoration began, and in 1994 the danish architects Inger og Johannes Exner introduced a iconic wooden facade and thus completing the modern restoration.
